THE Prada Shoes

Do you see the seam in the middle of Lia Belle's Prada shoes?

Lia Belle HAD to have these Prada shoes, but they didn't have her size. She has very tiny feet, so this is a common issue for her.

Being the crafty Aussie that she is, she bought them in the nearest size she could find and took them to a shoe repair shop. There they removed the heel and cut-out a few centimeters from the middle length of the shoe. Then, they reattached the two severed pieces, re-sanded the heel, re-sewed the lining and refit the heel.

Sounds expensive, but she bought the shoes on sale for $250 and had $100 worth of alterations. Now, the shoes fit Lia Belle perfectly! No one can see the difference, AND she still spent less than the full retail price- smart lady.

What Inspires You? Naye Quiros - Part II - Mexico Querido

Have you ever seen a piece of art or design and wonder... What idea did this come from? What does this mean? Why? What inspired this?

Most of the time the internal inquiries remain unanswered. For most of us don't have Versace on speed dial and can't channel Dali. We can, however, shed some insight on what's behind the designs of one of our fabulous designers.

Jewelry designer, Naye Quiros, has said before that her designs are direct reflections of her life experiences. But, like most great works, at first glance it's not so obvious. It's not until you talk to her, and she's able to tell you her stories that you begin to see that each piece has a history.

You see how a trip to Egypt and walk amongst the pyramids have been immortalized in silver.

Inspiration can come from something as simple as a warm night on the beach or something as complex as the intricate emotions of one living in a war zone. Whatever the case may be, I think it's the inspiration that gives art its meaning and its value. Without it, Picasso's Guernica would just be doodling on canvas. Inspiration is why we create things.

You may or may not have heard her name yet, but Naye Quiros (pictured <----- left) is one of the most extraordinary new jewelery designers out there. We were able to talk with her recently, and she dished on what made her decide to start designing as well as where she's hoping to go next. Below is her story, in her own words...

The beginning…
"Born in Mexico City, I lived my first years between Mexico and the USA. While studying Communications, my passion for fashion ignited, and I found myself working in Madrid, Spain for a television broadcast station (Televisa) as a reporter at the fashion catwalks in Milán.

My wandering lifestyle uncovered my passion for the world´s visual insight in its details and accessories. I studied product design at the Marangoni Istituto - Milan. That’s where I began to design contemporary jewelry. I consider my first years as 'the important silhouette' that have outlined my path. "

“I set out to break the dictatorship of fashion and what it means to wear a jewel. I don´t adapt to society, I want society to adapt to my designs. Who says you can´t wear a sphere sapphire ring with jeans? Who makes the rules?”

“My refusal to follow trends has provided me strength, and my designs have broken molds. The brand certainly has freedom. I work strategically, every day to set a new fashion movement of my own. From blurring the lines between formal and informal, letting the wearer decide.”

Naye Quiros' basics are guilty as charged. In fact, her refined elegance of all the stories and cities she has lived in have made her jewels sophisticated, simple, strong, soft, heavy, important. In every jewel she expresses her experiences, her art, her world.

Naye Quiros will undoubtedly continue to inspire, intrigue and fulfill our needs to identify our personality. Her creations are forked and can be found in the fashion world to liberate us from the visual monopoly of our time.

Its a rainy Sunday in Austin and I decided to go back to reading old magazines.
And luckily I did cause I just met Isabelle Steger and her unique collection.

This Austrian designer born in 1984 did what so many find hard to achieve: make the clothes relevant not just the beauty under it.
She gave us pure softness in geometric designs with a strong social concept.
She presented an idea of unity and uniformity... " A nod to the humanity underneath the clothes"
I am very pleased with her lines and the implicit elegance of her clothes.

Fearless and free, hair accessory designer Laura Kranitz continues to thrill us with her bold feather pieces. They add instant glamour and a splash of sass to those bold enough to wear them. Lady Kranitz offered us a sneak peek into the mind that makes it all happen with this fun interview.

What did you want to be when you were little? What would you like to be if you weren't a designer?
I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was young. If I was not a designer today, I would most definitely want to be a judge for a chili tasting contest or a marine biologist.

How did you get started in this business?
I have always loved hair accessories. I had dreadlocks when I was younger and use to tie them up into weird shapes and put feathers
and accessories in them. That's kinda where it all started

What goes into the process of designing a headpiece?
I am a very informal designer, I generally don't start off with a specific idea in mind, the whole process in very organic. I get inspired by colors and the materials I have around me.

What is the inspiration for your work?
I am inspired by vintage designers. I love the work of Bes-Ben, Schiaparelli, Paul Poiret, Robert Goossens and vintage YSL. I am also inspired by folk jewelery and accessories.

What's your advice for someone starting their own line or business in the fashion world?
Do something creative every single day, even if you have a day job that doesn't relate to fashion and work very very hard.

What's your favorite animal and why?
My favorite animal is Lola, my lab. But I also think that octopuses are really cool. I know that octopi is the correct terminology, but I hate saying that word so we'll stick with octopuses.

What couldn't you live without?
Coffee, E6000 and the moral support from my family.

When are you happiest?
When I travel, it inspires my work and my life. I am also happiest when spending time with my family and friends.

Where's your favorite place to shop?
Barneys, antique shops and vintage clothing stores. I also love to shop at the different boutiques that carry my work, I have found that they always have a great array of interesting up and coming designers.

A Minute for the Others

This was Samoa and hopefully and with all my heart I wish it will look like this soon again!

I know the world doesn't stop when bad news happen. But I personally need to give it a day this time. Today I was walking in the treadmill when four of the tv's where reporting about the Samoa Tsunami. I literally started crying and when I came home I couldn't think about shoes and Dior. My husband and I almost were in Thailand for their Tsunami, it was our honeymoon destination and luckily? it happened a week before us taking the plane. This is nature, or not, but this is a lot of lives lost. A lot of grief for many people. So not to make this harder than already is... Lets celebrate LIFE AND LOVE GLAMOUROUSLY!!!

Well... I am not sure about the outfit but definitely there is something very sexy and attractive about her look and her big smile. Everything looks real. And I love her necklace! For me this is a HIT!
No estoy muy segura del outfit en general pero definitivamente hay algo especial en su look en su gran sonrisa que me resulta atractivo y sexy. Se ve super real y genuino. Y adoro su collar. Para mi es un hit!

Sevigny wore a dress from Isaac Mizrahi’s Resort 2010 collection. I am not his biggest fan but she wore this dress with a lot of grace! So it will be a HIT for me!
Sevigny uso un vestido de Mizrahi. La verdad el no me fascina como disenador pero ello hizo magia con este vestido y se ve que lo lleva sin esfuerzo. Otro HIT!

Mark Fast's Decision of Using Size 12 Models Cause Controversy at London Fashion Week

Me sorprende gratamente ver que en algun rinconcito de esta industria aun queda gente que se arriesgue en pos de salud de las modelos y de quienes se someten y desviven por lucir como ellas. Este Canadiense que hoy vive en Londres se animo a lo que nadie se anima. Puso modelos de talle 12 en la pasarela del Londres Fashion Week. A mi me gusto verlas con un poco mas de curvas, aunque creo que tenemos el ojo totalmente viciado y no puedo dejar de admitir que la languidez de los talles cero aun parece mas normal.

I am happy to see that in a little corner of this industry there is still people concerned about models' health and all of us who submit to everything just to look a little like them. This Canadian designer who is living in London did what anyone else is capable of doing. Showing the real beauty! with a size 12 in the catwalk!!!! I have to admit that my eye is used to skinny girls so I found it a little weird at the beginning but hopefully we can all get used soon to true and healthy beauty.

El mes pasado fuimos a NYC en familia... y caminando sin descanso por mi adorada ciudad descubrimos Minamoto Kitchoan... y nunca nada fue igual.
Este es un pequenio pedacito de Japon en plena Manhattan. Cuando te asomas por la vidriera no estas muy segura de que estas viendo... definitivamente es comida, pero es algo distinto, es nuevo. Mejor dicho, nuevo para mi.
Son "Wagashi" o dulces japoneses. Algo asi como para nosotros una panaderia.
El impacto visual del lugar es magico y creanme que todo es delicioso.
Yo estaba con mi Vinny, mi hijo, y nos compramos un Momoaya que es durazno blanco en una gelatina de durazno y otra delicia mas que no recuerdo el nombre, solo se que era una masita de leche condenzada.
De ahi salimos y nos sentamos en el Rockefeller Center cual turistas a saborear nuestros dulces.
Por supuesto, volvimos todos los dias por mas.

En el mismo viaje una amiga me pidio que la acompane a hacerce las manos a Sakura. Me comento que era el mejor lugar para eso y ahi quedo el tema. Yo no pude ir porque no queria ver el destrozo que podia hacer un varon de tres anios.
Pero al llegar a Austin mi amiga, Esti, mando un tweet con su mano pintada por ellos.
Me encanto la coincidencia de la influencia Japonesa en mis dos nuevos stops en NYC!
Por si me faltaban motivos para ir... ha ha.
Pd: Sakura significa Cherry Blossom, el arbol amado por los Japoneses y yo.

Last August we did a family trip to NYC and while walking nonstop in my beloved town we discovered Minamoto Kitchoan. And nothing was ever the same.
Is a piece of Japan in the heart of Manhattan. Once you get closer to the window you are still not sure what it is. You start to get the idea of food but definitely its something new... or new for me at least.
The visual impact of the store is magic and trust me, everything is delicious!!!
They are "Wagashi" Japanese sweets full of natural goodness. Almost no animal fat and the sugar is made from pure carbohydrates and they are totally natural.
So after buying a couple Momoaya (white peach jelly) we sat with Vinny as 'tourists' at the Rockefeller Center.
Of course we came back for more every day until departure!

Same trip different day, a friend of mine asked me to go with her to Sakura for a manicure.
I was with other plans and didn't think that was the place for my 3 years old to enjoy. So I didn't go, but a couple of days ago my dearest friend Esti, the owner of Buydefiniton.com, best e-boutique, posted a photo of her own manicure at Sakura. Definitely I missed something here.
Now I have two more reasons to go back to NY. Well not that I need more...
I loved the Japanese influence in this not to be missed spots.

it's sooooo beautiful! I had to share with you my excitement when I received my new Chanel Nailpolish Jade. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but I LOVE IT!!!! It is super chic!
The only problem is that we might be all walking around with the same color!!! ughh.

Estoy super orgullosa de este magnifico grupo!

Ps: esa misma semana otro Argentino hizo historia, ganandole a Roger Federer en el US OPEN.

Una nota de Glamour fue tener a Anna Wintour (directora de Vogue USA) sentada en la segunda fila, justo en la semana del FW. Bien por ella que no solo disfruta mirando desfiles.

Many of the best designers shared and became protagonists at NYFW.

This year we didn’t have the chance to be reporting live but here is a short video and images from press.

I am SO proud of all of you!

Ps: BTW that same week another Argentine, Juan Martin del Potro, won his first US OPEN, defeating Roger Federer.

And to add some touch of Glam was Anna Wintour watching from her second row seat… in the mist of Fashion Week shows! Good for Anna that can enjoy something else than Fashion!

Despues de idas y vueltas para que esto ocurriera, nacio Glamporium. Bajo el signo de Virgo, como mi hijo y mi marido.

Feliz de haber empezado, espero lograr un espacio de recreacion y por que no meditacion, en un entorno glamoroso y amoroso.

En un anio donde surgen mas y mas maravillosos blogs de moda y arte espero hacer de Glamporium algo un poco mas personal, mas amplio y muy relajado.
